Architecture

One of the things I love about travel is stumbling on unusual builds and stark differences in builds in the same place.

church & cave houses in Santorini
Orthodox church and cave houses in Santorini, Aegean Sea.
colourful flats in Jelenia Gora
Colour contrast offset by the winter sun, blocks of flats in Jelenia Góra, which I learned means mountain of the deer – Lower Silesia, Poland.

And some more historic structures … less colour, more stone, more white…

Herod Atticus Odeon at the Acropolis
One of a few arenas I’ve visited – this is the Herod Atticus Odeon at the Acropolis in Athens.
Cape Coast castle – overlooking the sea
Panorama of Cape Coast Castle – colonial Portuguese architecture – a major take-off point for the slave trade. This later became the seat of government of the Gold Coast (Ghana pre-independence) when the British took over.
